Backing Buttons – This is its most common professional tailoring use. It is sewn on the inside of a coat or blazer, directly behind a heavy front button (like a 22mm metal or gold button). The fabric is sandwiched between the two buttons, which prevents the heavy outer button from ripping a hole in the cloth.
